James Beaufort x Reader

Synopsis: James and the Reader get into an argument and their relationship is rocky for a week. Then she doesn't show up for several days to school and he gets worried, before finally going to Alistair for some answers.

Warning: I think there is a few swears words? If I remember?

Also some personal reflection in this as well. I have hypothyroidism and it runs in the family. My dad had an episode with vertigo in which he had also found out he had his first episode of AFIB. This was a few years after he was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Second episode was four years later. AFIB is often a side effect of thyroid issues. Thyroid issues can cause detrimental effects if not taken seriously. You have any issues, with anything to do with your body, please please. Get it checked out. Stay safe.

The current week was definitely turning out to be a tough one, especially for both James and Y/N. Y/N herself hadn't been feeling the greatest the past week, with an unknown cause nor did she have anything that had seemed to help her feel better. But the two were currently going through an argument. Albeit, she wasn't one to go out of her way to talk to Ruby, Y/N wasn't happy with the way that James was treating her. She had felt that he had been unfair towards her, especially when Ruby's actions towards him were largely warranted. 

So the two had barely talked in the last week. Whenever they did, they argued, and Y/N didn’t like it, but James had to know that his actions were wrong, and as Y/N walked through the halls of Maxton, she thought back to the argument that they had earlier that morning. 

They both rode to school together that morning, even if they weren't talking. Alistair and Elaine offered to take her to school instead. Y/N understood Alistair asking, but she was surprised by Elaine, considering Elaine liked James. Y/N had spared James a look a few times, and itched to hold his hand. But he looked pissed off, so she didn’t, and when she went to ask if he was okay, he got snappy. This had only succeeded in now pissing Y/N off for the day as well. 

“What is your problem?” She asked. Percy turned the car down the long road leading to Maxton. The college could be seen through the trees.

“My problem? My problem is Ruby Bell.” He had but growled out those words, sending a sneer out the window at the passing trees. 

“She didn’t do anything.” 

“She walked in on Lydia and Sutton.” 

“It could have been anyone!” Y/N exclaimed. “What would have happened if it was Alistair or Cyril that walked in on them?” She asked. Y/N turned in the seat To look at him, but he refused to look at her. 

“But it wasn't them!” James turned to look at her. Percy looked in the rearview at them for a lengthy amount of time before turning his eyes back to the road before them. 

“Not my point, Beaufort!” She looked incredulously at him, as if he grew an extra head. Y/N wasn't understanding him in this moment, but then again, all millionaires and their heirs worked in the same way. “You can't just go and try to buy someone like you are her!” 

“Since when have you liked Ruby Bell?” 

“I don't not like nor do I like her. I just don't like how she is being treated by you and Lydia. She isn't even talking!” 

“Doesn't mean she won't. She thinks she knows how far I'm willing to go with this, but she has another thing coming for her.” James grumbled out. “I'm only just beginning.” Y/N clenched her jaw, before turning towards the front. 

“Percy, let me out.” the courtyard of Maxton was now in sight and only a few seconds away via car, but she couldn't handle James anymore at this moment. Percy looked at her through the rearview mirror, blinked a few times and then looked at James, who went back to looking out his window. 

Percy stopped the car. 

Without saying another word to James, she climbed out of the car. 

“Thank you, Percy.” 

Y/N had thought about it all consistently throughout the day. It had made some moments of studying and paying attention in classes difficult, but she had managed till the end of the day, and she was relieved. Y/N was ready to go home and relax. 

However, once Y/N had arrived home, she suddenly felt a ringing in her ears. Y/N felt nauseous, taking a few deep breaths to try and settle her stomach as everything seemed to hit her at once. She struggled to get out of the car, and the moment she was finally standing, she fell. 

The world was chaotic. Her vision was blurred and she was sensitive to all light and noise. Her chauffeur had come around the car to her, shouting for anyone inside the building to come and assist him. The crunching of his shoes against the stones of the driveway caused her face to scrunch up, and the yelling made her want to puncture her eardrums until she became deaf. 

A few more people knelt down around her, and she tried to keep her eyes open to see who it was, but the world was spinning. It was fast and quick and everything hurt. Y/N closed her eyes again. Why did she feel this way? What was going on? 

Y/N was now being picked up, placed back in the car between two bodies. Their voices told her that it was her parents. She was going to be okay. 

She turned as well as she could to see Alistair and Elaine standing on the front porch of the porch, watching them leave. She’ll be home soon.

Y/N hadn't been to school for several days. Alistair and Elaine had missed a few days as well, but had not talked much about what was going on. And to say that James was worried was an understatement. He was terrified, especially more so as their last conversation was an argument. 

She hasn’t been answering his texts. Alistair and Elaine hadn't said much when he first initially asked. Just that there was an accident but everything was okay. No specifics were given to him. He had been too busy with the event committee and his parents to find time to go to the Ellington’s manor to see him. Even then, visitation to Y/N had been strictly limited, it didn't matter who you were. 

James was pulling his hair out by the time the fifth day arrived of no communication from her. 

“Alistair!” James grabbed his bicep, pulling him into an empty room. “Is someone going to tell me what the fuck is going on?” 

“About what?”

“About what? Your sister! Why isn’t Y/N answering my texts? Is she okay?” He had all but demanded. “And most importantly, why can’t I see her?” He asked. Alistair stared at him for a few seconds. 

“She had an experience with vertigo the other day. She’s been experiencing it on and off the past few days. Parents took her to the hospital after she collapsed the last day she was at school. Me and Elaine were already home, as she had stayed behind to do some extra studying on school grounds.” James stared at him as he took In this information.  

“And she's okay now?” Alistair hesitated.  

“Yes and no. She'll be fine. I can promise you that. But the vertigo is still messing with her pretty badly. On top of it, she had an episode of afib that she didn't really detect. She has to be on beta blockers for a little bit with a pacemaker also for a little bit to help monitor her heart rate. It will help the doctors keep track of her heart and this event of afib.”

“Can it just be a one time thing?” He asked. 

“Depends, honestly. They said it was likely for her, but that she could also likely experience more down the road. They said it was likely brought on by her hypothyroidism.” the two went silent for several minutes as James took in the information. 

“When can I see her?” He asked. 

“I can take you today.”

Hesitation was not in James' intentions when he arrived at the Ellington manor. He booked past every single person, he seen, even the owners of the home As he raced towards the stairs. 

Their parents looked back at Alistair, Elaine following slowly behind him. He gave them a small shrug. 

“No one was talking to him about what was going on, including myself. It was time someone finally gave him some answers.” 

James hurried through the house, slowing down as he neared her room. She had vertigo, which likely also meant she was sensitive to light and noise. He had to be quiet. 

He knocked softly on her door, before calling out her name. It was silent for several seconds. 

“James?” A weak sounding voice could be heard. 

“Yea. Its me, love. Can I come in?” James could barely make out her approval. He opened her door, slowly and quietly. Her room was dark. Not entirely pitch black, but still dark enough that she could open her eyes and not be bothered by it if needed. 

She could be seen laying on her bed, buried underneath the blankets. James watched as she peeked her head out, her eyes opening slightly to watch him as he walked over to her. 

“Can I crawl into the bed?” He asked. Y/N nodded, moving backwards in the bed to allow him in. 

As he proceeded towards the bed, he noticed the medication bottles on her side table. The one he knew to be her thyroid medication. The others must be from her recent hospital stay. 

“So many drugs.” Y/N softly mumbled. “a pain in my arse.” James huffed out a laugh as he climbed into her bed. She scooted back over to rest against his chest. His arms came up to wrap around her, a hand coming up to comb through her hair. James buried his nose in her hair. 

“I'm glad you’re okay.” He whispered. Keeping his voice down. “I didn’t hear from you and no one in your family wanted to tell me anything.” 

“I'm sorry. They were supposed to.” Her weak voice spoke back to him. “that wasn’t fair to you. Even if we were fighting.” his mind went back to the argument. 

“I want to apologize.” He said. “You were right. The whole time, you were right. It wasn’t right for me to treat Bell like that.” He admitted. James knew when the arguments started that Y/N was right. He was just too arrogant and hard headed to admit it. For a moment there, he had turned into his father, and he grew to resent it. 

“Did you apologize?” 

“Not yet.” He admitted. “But I have been nicer.” 

Y/N huffed out a laugh, before wincing. 

“Well, it's a start.” Y/N kept her voice quiet, barely a mumble. She almost sounded tired. 

“We’ve made some good work on the donor gala.” He admit. “We are changing it to be Victorian themed.” 

“Yea? Are you going to use your parents' collection for advertisement?” Her voice sounded still as a mumble. 

“Wasn't going to. But I think it will be good for it. I was probably going to take Bell in the coming days to take photos. I know you absolutely love the collection, so if you'd like to join us-” a soft snore broke the moment. James sat there, listening to Y/N as she slept. A small smile graced his lips. James pressed a kiss to the crown of her head, his fingers still gently combing through her hair. He used his other hand to pull the blanket to cover more of her body. After a short amount of time, James too fell asleep.

Several hours have passed and the Ellington parents checked in on the two in Y/N's room. Both were fast asleep, clung to each other. 

“Should we wake them?” 

“No. They have to make up for lost time. Plus him being here will probably be better for her moral.”

The more I read the more I don’t understand the absolutely homophobic coded hate for The Sun and the Star. Nico literally shares a homophobic experience he experienced in the 40s that shaped the way he viewed himself, reflects on it, and then comes to the conclusion that’s what made him react to Cupid so badly, and THIS is something to hate??? Nico, growing, learning to share, learning to not impose isolation on himself, learning to feel his emotions and let them out, to be there for people, to miss Percy and Hazel and Jason, actually developing, and people are like “ugh so boring and unrealistic, they ruined my fav character”

Well, sorry he’s not the miserable little edgelord you all desperately want him to be. Sorry that Will actually has some very understandable flaws, sorry that Percabeth aren’t perfect, sorry that you’d read book about the experience of coming out for an Italian raised boy from the 1930s and think it’s boring, sorry that you’d read about the trauma of his Tartarus experience from HoH and go “OVERDONE”!!! This book does have flaws but it is not Nico and Will.

Every single interaction feels meaningful, the focus on emotion, growth, light, happiness, connection, love, friendship, and more is what is quintessential PJO to me. It’s not full of adventure after adventure and that’s perfectly fine to me. They’re navigating an emotional minefield. How the fuck can this fandom sit here and complain about the lack of emotional depth in Blood of Olympus and then when they do get it they’re like, “oh no no no this is the WRONG kind, I want him to stay miserable, I actually don’t want to read about his sorrow from his POV, I don’t want Nico to be MATURING” GROW UP?

Nothing about Solangelo so far feels OOC to me, and every time they do it’s actually even pointed out to us that it IS ooc, and we get to see how they feel about it. This is exactly what I expect from canonical middle school sunshine/darkness tropes.

Also, this is VERY IMPORTANT so pay fucking attention. THIS. IS. NOT. A. MAIN. PLOT. BOOK. IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE BREAKNECK PACING. If this was an anime, this would be a sweet little OVA arc. This is a side story, just the same way the Percy/Thalia/Nico story was. It’s a companion book about two side characters. Why are your expectations as high as a main series book? It’s a NICO AND WILL book, it’s not anything more or less. Another thing to remember? Canonically this is meant to be the year 2011. The RRverse is very anachronistic where current year elements feature in a timeline where it shouldn’t, but EVEN SO, it still feels at best 2015. More importantly? It’s only been a year since Cupid. A singular YEAR. For reference the pandemic started 3 whole years ago.

I can’t stand fans sometimes, you’ll jump on any bandwagon of hate without exercising a single shred of critical thinking or nuance, and then conveniently forget a whole bunch of things that are GOOD for the minor flaws this book has. This isn’t a 10/10 book, it’s probably a solid 7.5!!! Stop treating it as if it’s 3/10. And I stand by what I said before. We need more middle grade LGBT lit! Is this the BEST out there? No. Is this however bad? No. And before you guys come for me without having a molecule of reading comprehension, it’s OKAY to not like this book. It’s not okay however to make sweeping statements of hate as if everyone who enjoys this book is a blithering idiot.

I believe it is time for me to talk about piper again

Something i really dont like about this fandom is that we were quick to hate her even though the main reason wasnt her character

People generally hate her because of her relationship with drew. The problem here though is not piper, but the way drew was portrayed by the author. Drew was a flat character, and to me she was a lot like Nancy Bobofit (who didnt appear a lot tbh). In my opinion, if we knew drew a bit more, hers and Piper's fight would be much more interesting.

They also hate her because she ONCE said that the aphrodite cabin was shallow. We all know how rick has treated the aphrodite kids, right? Percy has said many things like that about them but noones hating on him. I know that is not an excuse but see the difference on how we treat the white boy?

Another reason is that she is not as traumatized as the others (??whywouldthatbeareason??) and people say she complains a lot, which, to be honest, i did not see in the books.

To start with, she was most of the time neglected by her dad who didnt understand her needs and never paid attention to her (to the point she had to steal a freaking car thank you very much). We' ve seen she was treated really bad from the kids in her school (racist comments and also comments about her family) and lets not talk about how bullying affects teenage kids. Lets just say that we all sympathized with percy when he was bullied and changed schools all the time but noone talks about the fact that piper was also bullied (and not by having pb&j thrown at her, which is also bad but...)

People also say that she is a "pick me" and "not like other girls". First of all, shaming her because she doesnt wear makeup or isnt stereotypically "girly" is more misogynistic than anything you say piper did.

She has never ever said anything that implies shes doing so for boys. Sje genuinly didnt like those things and people straight up attacked her for being a teenage girl with MASSIVE OTHER PROBLEMS TO DEAL WITH.

She did not shame drew for liking makeup as far as i remember, she only called the cabin shallow because they treated her EXACTLY like her bullies.

Also she "only talks about jason" and is "possesive". Hmhm. Reminds you of anything? OH! ANNABETH! But the white blond girl was excused because she was a "teenager", yet ive never seen anyone defend PIPER'S mistakes with that excuse, even if it is the truest thing for both her and Annabeth.

I have nothing against percy and annabeth, or people who headcanon piper as girly, but we should remember that canon piper was a teenage girl and support her just like we do with annabeth.

Watching as Penny applied lipstick was always more of a treat then he knows how to explain. Or even more than he had ever expected it to be. He doesn't really think he has to with how she doesn’t even ask anymore. Just sits right in his lap like she belongs there and pulls out her mirror. Percy doesn’t really understand why she tries so hard to keep it neat when she knows it will be smeared and smudged only a few moments later, but he’s not complaining either. 

This new colour she’s acquired really does look lovely on her. More of a pink then the brighter red of the last one she used. When she places the mirror back in her pocket Percy only takes in the pretty colour for a moment before going in for a kiss, then two, then three. 

Enjoying the way Penny’s fingers feel digging into his back. The way he can feel the slightly tacky feel of the lipstick against his lips. The weight of her body on his lap. 

Moving his attention from her lips to the side of her neck Percy quick pecks kisses all the way down to the collar of her school shirt. Pulling back to admire his handiwork enjoying the joyful smile on her lips.

She giggles as she reaches out to wipe away what Percy assumes is excess lipstick that’s ended up on the edges of his mouth while speaking in a lightly teasing tone, “I really should have known.”

“It is, by far, my favourite part.” He smirks as he smudges the marks he’d left behind with his thumb. “You look so lovely like this.”

She really does. He loves seeing her with it but something about leaving the marks on her neck is far more satisfying. Far more intimate. They won’t be able to hide away for much longer before curfew comes alone. Before they have to clean up and part once more but for now though this is enough.

Never in a million years would you want to kiss Percival Dolarhyde. God, who could even think of kissing him? He's annoying and a loudmouth and has no idea how to treat anybody right.

And he's ugly anyways. Yeah. The ugliest. The ugliest and saddest bastard you'd ever encountered in all of Absolution. Which – given the low population count – was an easy contest to win. But still, he managed to make it through with flying colors.

Every single day presented a brand new way in which Percy could find a way to needle into your side. In fact, if you didn't know any better, you'd swear that he enjoyed eliciting a reaction from you.

So, mustering up as much unpleasantness as possible, you throw your own punches. And in a way it's therapeutic. The frustration would bubble up so much that it was a relief to have something to blow your lid at.

Every time you call him some nasty name or manage to hurl some retort that shuts him up, your pride swells knowing that the Dolarhyde boy wouldn't get everything he ever wanted. No one was that lucky – not even you.

Because as these exchanges continue on, the urge to up the ante with every blow is so tempting. Because calling him a rat bastard and a nuisance and an arrogant cur simply isn't enough anymore.

Truthfully, the more his lips flap in the wind, sputtering out some feeble insult, the more you simply want to shut him up; to put actions to those words you so desperately cling to. 

Percy's face inches closer to yours as he speaks, "I ain't never known a more goody-two shoes little girl in all of my life."

"Funny how your daddy could be so rich and yet you still can't manage to form a half decent insult."

"Oh, like you could do any better, huh?" Percy scoffs, "Yeah, c'mon, girl. Do your worst."

And you do. At least it's the worst for you. In Percy's case...well, that kiss is probably one of the best things that's ever happened to him.

With his bandana balled up in your fist, you pull him down to your level. And just like every other punch you've pulled on him, your mouth doesn't miss its mark. They strike his dry, cracked lips and create a spark that's just enough to start a raging brush fire as soon as your own lips part and his breath quickens.

Percy struggles with his hands, half afraid that if he puts them anywhere on you, it'll break the heated spell and result in a kick to the groin. But when he settles for placing them on your hips, he's shocked to find that it only makes you whine desperately as you pull him closer and closer. So he does the same and lets himself sink deeper into the embrace.

You only pull away when the sharp and spicy taste of tobacco becomes far too much for you to handle. Because of course even when you're kissing him, something about him has to ruin it just a little bit. That's another thing you could be mad at him for, you figure. And part of you hates how excited you get at the prospect of adding that fact onto your list of problems with him.

"I wasn't quite expecting...that..." Percy murmurs, still trying to catch his breath.

"Would you rather I'd socked you in the nose?"

"No, ma'am," he replies sheepishly and eyes you wearily.

the scars we bear is one I've had kicking around in various forms for a while. The core premise is very simple: what happens when Caleb and Percy finally meet? But figuring out how exactly, and where, they meet has been tricky. I think I finally found a version I like though :3

Like a blade through flesh, the sound of footfalls and a cane clicking against the floor cut through the tumult in his mind, settling it in an instant. It should be frightening, how easily he schools his face into an only slightly stormy neutrality, but it feels as natural as summoning fire to his hands. It even reminds him, distantly, of Essek and his Shadowhand mask.  Gods, let it not be Da’leth. “Mind if I join you?” Not Da’leth. Caleb doesn’t turn, savoring the little burst of relief at not being ambushed for the moment it lasts. “If you insist.” His new companion doesn’t answer, just crosses the distance from the doorway to the railing and settles a hand on the stone. Still, he doesn’t speak, joining Caleb in silent observation of the Platinum Veranda spread below them. After a minute or so of quiet, Caleb finally glances at him. Were he in any other mood, he might’ve startled at the sight of the Whitestone lord who’d joined the witnesses today. But there he is; white hair, complicated glasses, exhausted face, and navy blue coat.  In addition to everything from the last few months? This might as well happen.

This one I originally started with a random prompt generator giving me "I can tell you're pissed off, you know"! Verin is grounded, stuck in the Den Thelyss library for skipping his classes to beat up Adeen, who has been treating Essek very poorly. And Essek is, ah, not happy with him for this. It was originally a drabble that I decided to expand on, and it needs some revisions. I'm not quite pleased with the direction it took last I worked on it. But! Have a bit of the portion of it I do like.

“Do you want me to apologize?” he says, voice pitched louder in case Essek’s gone far. There’s a long pause. “Would you, if I asked?”  He sounds somewhat close by, at least. Verin’s half a mind to climb the stairs to find him, the only thing stopping him the worry that someone will come in to check on his progress. Light, this whole situation is ridiculous. “Of course I would, Essie,” he says, running a hand absently through his hair, messing his braid and pulling painfully on his bruised shoulder in the process. “I only thought that…” “That what?” Essek’s voice is sharp, but Verin knows the difference between genuine sharpness and put-on sharpness, when it’s coming from his brother. This is the latter. “That Adeen Tasithar needed to be reminded to treat you like you and not…” Verin sighs, deciding that it may be better to not finish that sentence. Essek’s testy as it is about this. “You deserve better than him, that’s all.” “That isn’t for you to decide, Verin.” “You haven’t heard the way he talks about you with the rest of the Watch,” Verin says, frustration bleeding into his voice. “It’s not alright, Essek.”

VP Reads Psycholonials - Chapter 1 & Interlude 1

My instinct here is to watch for numbers that might be thematically important, but I suspect that the numerology stuff might just be a HS thing. It's been a HOT minute since I read PS, but I don't remember any numerology in it. That isn't keeping me from having a running list of numbers that pop up.

Z talking about having a non-conventional philosophy about family is incredibly resonant with me. I wonder if this story is going to involve a found family narrative or if it's going to flip that on it's head somehow. I'm not sure what to expect, but family seems to be a theme this story wants to cover, since Abby and Z spend a while talking about family. I could be wrong though. Since this is only chapter 1, we're still just learning stuff about the characters. Which BTW, Hussie has character creation down pat. I wanna see them teach a class on it. I genuinely think she's that good at it. I also really like how he strings words together, it's nice.

I'm intrigued by Z's past with social media and cancelling. I can perfectly imagine like ten types of discourse Z could've gotten cancelled over on Tumblr alone, but I'm not familiar enough with the Instagram sphere to know if it translates. I almost hope it stays ambiguous as to what got them cancelled, it would make Z a lot more relatable for an already niche sort of experience.

Getting a look a Z's social media accounts left me with a variety of thoughts, starting with "whoa, pronouns!" and ending with "oh, she's definitely displaying some maladaptive coping mechanisms here." I did get a giggle out of Twitter being dated. I double checked and Twitter only became X last year. It feels like it was simultaneously so much more recent and also eons ago.

Z being a legitimate influencer is kind of throwing me for a loop. Being famous sounds awful to me. People don't treat you like a person. Even something as simple as modeling can make people treat you different. It's bonkers. All of this is just a job people! At least Z seems to be chill and understand that influencers are people too and that the capitalistic drive to always be productive is actually all sorts of detrimental to the human psyche.

I was really excited seeing the psychic damage meter and the spoon theory meter. I like this sort of gag in Hussie's other works. I do wonder if there will actually be any kind of substantial repercussions based on these or if they'll even pop up again. I hope so.

I also feel conflicted on Abby. First she comes off as a shitty friend, but then she comes around to following Z on main, but then she belittles the pandemic. All I can say is that I'm glad it was at least lampshaded. I also like the symetry between Z and Abby being at opposite ends of the alphabet. Abby is shaping up to be a huge foil for Z, which is exciting.

The dream sequence caught me off guard, but the creepy music (and the trailer with the scary shadow being) prepared me for the worst of it. I really like the sound direction of this so far. Later, when Abby and Z's call ended and the music also cut out, it was a really poignant and made the moment feel realer. Also, I swear that Abby must have a crush on Z. They way she's interacting with them is giving me major flashbacks to high school when I had a crush on my yet-to-be-out bisexual best friend. Also, shout out to Z for being the first heterosexual nonbinary person to capture my heart <3

Now time for my thoughts on that ending. There was a QUICK escalation that has me totally hooked. I caught the pre-clownery murder when I watched the trailers, which I'm pleased about. The entire sequence was kind of a rush- not unlike how Z was behaving earlier when they thirst-trapped poor, sweet, nice, well-adjusted Percy.

As for the interlude, I think this really puts Psycholonials in conversation with Deltarune. It's all about CHOICE, or rather the lack of it. But whereas Deltarune has different impact based on choices, it seems like there really will be no choices allowed in Psycholonials at all. Which I'm fine with. There's something about the whims of social media being out of your control that makes it really work well in my mind.

Overall! I'm excited for chapter 2! I need to see what happens next.

Probably Immortality and Recovery. They focus on learning how to cope and continue to live after a loved one/best friend has died. Very angsty, but has some bits of comfort. I cried like a baby while writing both of them, and most of my commentors said they cried too.

Most of my fics have happy or hopeful endings. None of them really stand out as the 'happiest?'

... no. I've written some controversial fics where I expected to get hate so I moderated comments, but I was pleasantly surprised to see no hate! Some people didn't agree with my opinions/interpretations in those fics, but they were polite enough.

I've seen it in other fics, and my only issue is when the author doesn't make it obvious what the words mean, or they don't immediately provide a translation. Like I don't want to have to scroll past thousands of words/switch to another tab to google it and lose my place to figure out what a sentence means, you know? Its distracting and takes away from the story.

Hey Annon! I apologize for not replying sooner. I was avoiding PJO for awhile because of some conflict I had with some people, but I have been working on updating my Percy Jackson/Ethan Nakamura story. It won't be out any time soon, but it's been a couple years and my writing has improved a lot, plus there are scenes I want to add and change. I've been working on it the past couple of months. The new story already having 7,000 words and not even halfway through the outline I have. I can't tell you when it will be out (I have school and a job plus family obligations that I need to focus on) but I will get this done even if it takes me another six months to finish.

Thank you for the Percy/Ethan brainrot and ideas, and they were fun to look at, I didn't reply to any of it because I'm organized to an extreame degree and decided I needed to make a side blog for my PJO stuff before I could reply. Anyway here are some of my thoughts that have been long in the making.

1. That's such a cool idea. One that is really cute and sweet but one that I won't be including in this version of the story. Maybe I'll write another one with that detail, but I'm wierd like that and would deep dive the subject and end up learning about a very specific rural tradition about one village in an isolated prefecture and get so far off track from where I started. I'll keep the idea in mind, but my version of Percy and Ethan wouldn't do this simply because on the off chance that they get caught having similar iteams they wouldn't want to risk the safety of the other. In a timeline where the circumstances weren't as dire they sure would, but in this one? They already know what they are doing is very dangerous and any more risk could upend everything. Maybe I'll explore why they don't do it in the fic? IDK depends on how my writing goes.

2. Not at first they don't. They are so awkward in the begining and honestly cautious. Ethan because this is Percy Jackson someone with sometimes incomprehendedable strengths and powers, he wants to keep some distance, and Percy because Ethan could be a threat to his family and friends and he doesn't want them to get hurt. However after they get closer and start to realize any meeting could be their last? They hug all the time, stay in the others personal space, and soak up the presence of the other like it will replenish their strength. They don't do it in more public spaces though, who knows who is watching. However in more private settings they will be inseparable.

3. Them meeting multiple times on opposing sides before the Battle of Manhatten, mostly smaller missions and sometimes by surprise. Neither wanting to hurt eachother but knowing they have to keep up appearances. A new demigod saved from a hoard of monsters deciebed it like a deadly ballet. Both precise in the way they move, but sometimes almost manic in energy and controlled chaos. It was beautiful and unnerving and the new demigod would wonder what would happen if they even fought together on the same side. Of course no one would ever see them dance on the same side but it was just as much a beauty to watch them fight against eachother.

A part of Harry Potter I like is that Walden Macnair, barely a character, is so disproportionately badass and it's like...Eh, not that note worthy. He seriously intends to behead Buckbeak with an axe small enough to carry around his belt and throttles/necklifts Harry with one hand, and negociates with giants as the executioner for the comitee of disposal of dangerous creatures. Like, how strong is this dude ? Also, I think it would be funny to have a somewhat morally sound Slytherin with very skewed priorities who's fully brainwashed and crazy, but his heart is in the right place, and somehow is by far the kindest character.

I never thought much about Macnair until I read a Tumblr post or something about him and I was like...I kind of like this dude! The guy just wants to kill things and I admire simple desires like this. I need to examine his reaction to Buckbeak's execution being thwarted again :)

Hmm, morally sound but brainwashed? Not sure if that's compatible really. Brainwashed how? With blood purity ideals or something else?

But for real, JKR dropped the ball with Slytherin characters. Harry needed a Slytherin friend desperately. With better setup, Draco MAYBE could have played that role if JKR gave a crap about his development. Despite Draco's pureblood beliefs, he was willing to talk with Harry before he knew he was speaking to the famous Harry Potter. It's actually very significant because Draco is the only kid in the wizarding world who treated Harry like a normal person when he first met him. It's a shame Harry immediately wrote him off as Dudley 2.0. What's actually frustrating too is that Draco's beef with them was not related to his bigotry either. He hates Harry because Harry rejected him, rudely at that. He sniped at Ron because Ron laughed at his name. And he went on his hate crusade on Hermione because she insulted his quidditch skills. I am depressed at the missed potential.

The issue with lacking Slytherin representation could have been solved too by making characters like Percy Slytherin. I think Percy being Slytherin would have made for some great drama but heaven knows poor Percy would have been even more abused by his family so maybe not.

Based on your character description, I am picturing a Slytherin who is just like any other nice boy/girl next door. They're nice enough but they are casually bigoted through ignorance or low expectations. Kind of like Slughorne. Something like:

"Hermione/Justin are nice and all but I don't think they are marriage material, you know..."

"This technology is so cool, but I thought muggles were dumb?..."

"Why is Hagrid even a teacher here? He dropped out of school in 3rd year right? And being part giant only makes him stupider."

as far as Hera meta goes, my main point is that she’s not a villain in the true sense of the word: i think she’s tolerant of humans and the consideration she generally has for demigods is the consideration she’d have for ants. and honestly, she’s truly one of the few gods who’s entitled to feel that way, considering that she’s not responsible for siring them and would rather the others didn’t. obviously she has exceptions (demigods/humans she really likes and demigods/humans she really hates) and she’s wrong for taking revenge on Zeus’ mistresses but overall she’s just not that bad. ya feel me?

she’s also shown to feel genuine love for Jason which brings the count of people who have actually felt genuine love for Jason in canon up to three lmao (Piper-Leo-Hera). Nico exists in a grey area and you got to have some respect for that.

so anyways, she was actually pretty smart to swap Percy and Jason and she managed to keep it under the rug for longer than what would be expected. obviously it was wrong of her to use them as puppets for her strings but she’s not nearly alone in that. Apollo confirms in ToA that it is simply the way gods treat demigods. In my view, she sucks but she doesn’t Especially Sucks.

i also have endless sympathy for Hera having to tolerate her husband’s infidelity and (so clearly implied they might as well say it) abuse. she’s just. an unhappy woman, dare i say the unhappiest olympian god, and i think she has been so for so long that she has forgotten what anything else feels like. does she have friends? she certainly doesn’t have lovers, and while that may have initially been a commitment of love, it must have gotten pretty lonely over the years. she’s portrayed as icy and dignified and distant, the godliest of the gods, the one who most clearly represents the divide between mortals and immortals, and i ask myself how much of that is her real personality, and how much is the result of bitterness and isolation.

imagine: Hera regretting the fact that she’s made so many enemies once, when she felt untouchable and at her peak, because she’s just alone now, but what’s done is done so what can she do?

Hera never quite fitting in with other deities and really, who can blame them.

Hera having spent such a long time not even considering the idea of romantic love for herself and being so stunted that when she starts falling for Apollo, she doesn’t even notice. she simply cannot believe it. doesn’t even dare to think it.

she feels that feeling. the one where you a crush on someone after a really long time and you are all giddy and excited, not because you think it may be reciprocated, but because it’s new and thrilling to desire someone. she’s a high school girl wanting to be asked to prom.

now, let’s suppose it all happens because her and Apollo start sleeping together to spite Zeus as per my headcanon, and she inexplicably begins to want him for more than just revenge: she would would be so angry because she cares more, she’s far more into it, she’s utterly taken by him. at the end of the day, what they do is nothing particularly new for him (except for the “if he catches us i’m dead” part ig lmao) but it’s all brand new never heard before for her!! and her pride would be hurt!! but what are you gonna do about it!!

and now let’s suppose that at one point he starts caring back, and he treats her well and she hasn’t been treated well in centuries. so she gets carefree, and she gets reckless and she catches herself fixing her hair before the Olympian Council so that he sees her at her best!! imagine how humiliating that is for her!! she’s the Queen of Olympus she’s the Queen of the gods she’s the Ruler of the world and he’s literally just a guy!! she should hit him with her car!!

instead, she finds herself in his car, having been convinced to take a ride with the sun chariot for the first time ever while he’s babbling about… she doesn’t even know, talking horses trying to kill him? because that’s something that happened? apparently? and he has his stupid shades on and she feels like a high school girl actually getting asked to prom.

and for the unhappiest goddess of the Council, that’s a really magnificent feeling.

The Sally-Grover-Chiron-Dyonisis dynamic- oh my god I could talk about it for HOURS!

!!spoilers!! for the show!!! spoilers under the cut

filter #pjo tv spoilers, to avoid seeing spiller from me or you haven't watched yet!

Grover and Sally talking as if Percy wasn't there, Grover taking to Chiron and Mr.D when Percy ACTUALLY wasn't there, it becomes very obvious how much Percy's life is out of his own control.

Back when Percy went to Yancy, the only people who tried understanding him were adults who never really addressed his problems in a way he really needed, making him feel that distance between himself and other people. Even Grover, who acts like his cool friend, is just some older guy who was just trying to "look after" him.

The conflict between Percy and Grover actually changed from the books, but it's still very interesting. In the books, Percy inadvertently blocks Grover from his Searcher's Liscence, but the reasoning is pretty similar. Grover was just that friend who Percy had to protect, but all of a sudden, Grover's got it twisted, and acts like he's done so much for Percy. They make up and decide to work as a team, there's nobody else they'd rather have at their sides. In the show, Grover gets Percy expelled. We can see that he doesn't want to, and very carefully avoids outright lying to the teachers- even though Percy never *touched* Nancy, he attacked her.

The very important detail here is that Percy doesn't know WHY. EVERYONE is keeping Percy in the dark, keeping secrets. In the books, this is one of the major sources of conflict, not just for Percy. In the show, we've already seen CHIRON himself say outright that secrets are a gOoD tHiNg- and kept secrets about Sally, which definitely isn't good for his relationship with Percy. Chiron might say the gods' plans will unfold in time, but he is manipulating the situation himself!

Percy needs SUPPORT, and Grover even says in the car that that's his job, but nobody is letting Percy's life be about HIMSELF, about his own FEELINGS and UNDERSTANDING. Even Annabeth, another kid just like him, treats him like an outsider.

As far as Percy is concerned, Luke (slash some other kids, we'll get to them later) is the only one acting like his friend (it seems like Grover has been literally avoiding him for days at before the end of Ep2, its a tad unclear), but of course, Luke is lying to his face. Luke benefits from Percy being claimed just as much as Annabeth does, so he doesn't say a word about the plan (which he totally knew, at least in the book and it seems like in the show too!) and one other Hermes kid was totally talking bad about Percy thinking Luke was on board (I don't know the kid's name, is that supposed to be Ethan or something??)

Percy even says at his little fire that he finally made some friends, who "actually like" him, unlike in school (read: Yancy, where he met Grover and Chiron)

PJO is such a powerful book because Percy and his friends claim their own destiny, their own future, so of course at the start of the story, Percy has none of that yet. The people who aviso want good things for him, aren't working *with* him, but rather unbeknownst to him.

miscellanous headcanons about ginny. a list of headcanons ( particularly pertaining her relationship w/ her brothers and her career ) regarding her that idk where else to put.

•           out of all the brothers, i would say ginny was particularly spoilt the most by bill, but only because their age differences allow bill to sort of... parent her when she was very young, especially when their mum had to care for the other siblings and their dad is working.

•           this makes bill someone ginny really looks up to, with charlie being the close second ( on the account of charlie being the first in the weasleys to be recruited into a professional quidditch team, which catapulted ginny's own ambition later ). her dynamic with them definitely differs from her dynamic with fred, george and ron, whom she treats far more equally roughly to compare with bill and charlie, whom she treats with admiration and a whole load of respect.

•           ginny's the least closest with percy and could sometimes feel a bit awkward with him because i don't believe percy, being so focused in his ambition, particularly reaches out to ginny a lot, though i do think they'd make more of an effort post-war, especially given fred's passing.

•           while ginny's spoiled and adored by bill, trained under charlie, it is with fred and george she's rather playful with because i think the twins were really the first to acknowledge that ginny didn't always need to be pampered, but also, you know, someone you genuinely play with as siblings. there's still elements of them babying her, definitely, but otherwise, they do actively include her along their schemes if she asked.

•           now with ron... that's ginny's physical and verbal sparring partner right there. she argues with him the most, but it is also him that i think she's closest with. he's that sibling in the family that she can randomly goes into his room, tells him he smells or smth, and then immediately asks him if he wants to eat the leftover food with her.

•           ginny lives in the burrow after graduating from hogwarts, and even after having recruited into holyhead harpies. the option to leave the burrow was always open to her, but she would purposely chose to stay there in the account of not wanting to leave her parents "all on their own". i do think percy also eventually moved back in, which was what remedied their dynamic than the distant he kept up when ginny was much younger.

•           ginny is an excellent chaser. growing up, she's always shown great talent in it, especially her reflexes, but it was especially harnessed when charlie ( whenever he could ) guided ginny quite early in how to move and chased after the snitch. so yes, ginny was initially "trained" in their backyard quidditch as a seeker, though it is only in school that she became quite fond of the chaser position and worked her way to perfecting her skills specially for that. as a back-up though, and within the family, she does fall back to playing the seeker.

extra headcanon: despite being recruited professionally, ginny can still never quite win against charlie in adulthood, especially if she plays the opposite seeker against him. ginny, i believe, sort of idolises the position — which is why i think she sort of readily accepts that she could never compete against great seekers, including charlie and harry, even if she has much potential.

•           with that said, ginny works extremely hard on her speed and broom-manoeuvring. she's excellent in nearly all spells that would've helped her if she slipped from the broom or fell mid-air. she loves the thrill of scoring the most, because she's that quick, although it can blind her to bludgers coming her way, which has led to several of her famous injuries throughout her career.

•           ginny will eventually be known for being one of the top scorers ( chaser position ) in the quidditch english cup by the time she is twenty-five years old. her signature moves are fast balls, followed closely with straight balls. by the time she's in her late twenties though, she would've perfected curve balls as well.

•           in my headcanon, ginny worked towards wanting to be professionally recruited into the england team to represent them in the quidditch world cup. i'd like to think she did got in.

Apollo/jack: I invented this ship two months ago (when submitting jack to a swords tournament), because I realized how similar this two are(flirts who like to sing and are annoying to other people) and because of this quote from apollo: "another time, in a Stockholm tavern, I met this god who was smoking hot, except his talking sword just would not shut up". (that god is frey, the norse god of summer). Now, I have seen people ship Apollo/Frey because of this quote and the similarities in their domains; and I have seen Jack shipped with other weapons. But I haven't seen ANYONE ship jack/apollo when it's RIGHT THERE. people seem to think jack can only be shipped with other weapons, even non sentient ones, which seems like bullshit to me. Anyway, do you know that thing where a person holds up a sword to another person's throat and it's very sexy? imagine that but it's a flying talking sword instead. I decided to use that scene they met in to write something(it's a wip) and has the two of them at some of the lowest points in their lives having a really unhealthy one night stand. so far it's more character study then smut but that's because i dont actually know how to write.

It starts with sumarbrander being overprotective of frey/jealous in some way when apollo start talking to frey, frey's mind is barely there because he is thinking of his future wife the giantess Gerd (in the future he gives up his sword in his attempts to marry her, so I think he wouldn't really be treating sumarbrander that well even before). apollo i think just wants to get laid there and also probably hates himself at that point but I want to finish reading his series to know his characterization better

(I can explain more of my reasoning for why they are not their best and explain my interpertation of why apollo described their meeting like that but i feel like i wrote too much already)
